- Rev. Dr. David McMaster
Dr. David McMaster was born into a Methodist manse in Ireland and grew up in Belfast. His family moved to the Toronto area in his late teens and it was there, some years later, he had what he describes as an encounter with God. David’s faith grew while in university and soon he began to feel God’s call to ministry. Upon the completion of an Economics degree, he went to Asbury Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky where he earned a Master of Divinity degree. While there, he developed a deep interest in Biblical Studies and languages and went on to study the history of the ancient Near East at Laurier, Biblical Studies at St. Andrew’s and McMaster, and the theology of Scripture at the University of Toronto.
Throughout his academic years, David always stayed close to the church. He was ordained into the Free Methodist Church and had successful ministries as a Senior Minister in Toronto, Ottawa, and Markham. In 2006, in search of a bigger theological tent, David transferred to the United Church of Canada and has served at Timothy Eaton Memorial and Eastminster Churches in Toronto and Belleville. David says that his heart is in the local church. He very much enjoys working with people, hearing their stories, sharing times of laughter, and offering spiritual help when life gets difficult.
As a young man, David developed a great love for soccer, music and fishing. He also likes to read, appreciates an odd trip to the theatre, and is a regular at his local gym.
David has three children and six amazing grandchildren. Work and relationships have taken his children to various parts of North America but he enjoys seeing them as much as he can.
