Assistant Organist and Co-Director of The Metropolitan United Church Choir School - Catherine Gray, BMus & BA, MMus, CRCCO, ARCT (Voice & Organ), ARCCO, FNCM
Catherine Gray is Assistant Organist at Metropolitan as well as Co-Director of the Metropolitan Choir School. She is considered one of North America’s very finest children’s choir trainers. Prior to taking up these positions she was the second person to hold the Shipman Organ Scholarship at Metropolitan and was the Associate Organist at the Collegiate Chapel of St. John the Evangelist at Huron University College in London, where she studied with William Lupton. She has been a guest organist at numerous churches throughout Southwestern Ontario and served as staff accompanist at Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts.
Catherine was the recipient of the 2013 Kathleen Williams Award for the highest mark in the Colleague examination of the Royal Canadian College of Organists. In August 2015, she earned the Associates Diploma in Organ Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music. In May 2016 Catherine passed the Fellowship Examination in Organ from the National College of Music, London, UK. In June of that same year, Catherine passed the Associateship Diploma of the Royal Canadian College of Organists. She holds both the Bachelor of Music Degree and the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from The University of Western Ontario. She also holds a Master of Music Degree in Education from the University of Western Ontario, where she studied under the direction of Ruth Wright and Robert Wood. Catherine has also earned her Bachelor of Education from UWO, and was awarded the Don Wright Faculty of Education Music Scholarship.
In addition to her organ studies, she has a strong interest in choral singing, and has sung with numerous choirs throughout London and Ontario, including the Ontario Youth Singers and the 2012 National Youth Choir of Canada.At Metropolitan, Catherine is responsible for regular service playing as well as serving as Co-Director, Principal Conductor and Vocal Coach for the Choristers.
