The Met Live Theatre Company consists of a group very talented young actors who are exploring the acting possibilities available to them on the newly renovated concert stage at Metropolitan.
Our first production, Shakespeare's King Lear, was presented in February of 2024. This production took place on the concert stage, which we call the Metropolitan Main Stage. We followed with Fred Carmichael's Any Number Can Die. An hilarious takeoff on the murder mystery plays of the late 20s complete with secret panels, robed figures, and wills being read at midnight! This production was in the Metropolitan Underground Theatre. In 2025 our third show was Hamlet, again on the main stage, and in June Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.
A Midsummer Night's Dream
In Athens’ walls, a wedding draws near,
While restless hearts are pulled by hope and fear.
Four lovers steal away beneath the night,
To chase desire and claim their chosen right.
Yet in the woods where moonlit shadows play,
Mischievous fairies weave their magic sway.
Their quarrels spill enchantment through the air,
Till reason falters in love’s tangled snare.
A troupe of players, eager for acclaim,
Rehearse a humble yet ambitious frame.
As spells confound what waking minds once knew,
The world seems strange, uncertain, yet somehow true.
Director's Notes
I am so happy to be directing my first show for Met Live Underground Theatre. The vision I portrayed in this show is one of parallel universes that intertwine and have influence over each other. The Forest, a magical world of dancing fairies and love spells, interacts with the Human world through the unfortunate Lovers who stumble through the woods and the Rude Mechanicals, who's passion for the play they are rehearsing almost makes up for their lack of talent in performing it. I am extremely proud of the cast of Dream and have had a wonderful time watching as everyone progressed, improved, and grew with their characters. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to direct my favourite Shakespearian comedy.
