Tradition
Metropolitan has always been know for its strong tradition of preaching. Names such as George Goth, Maurice Boyd, Bob Ripley, and Jeff Crittenden are not only known in the United Church, but in the wider community. There is some to be said for only having 10 ministers since our current building opened in 1896!
Music at Metropolitan is an important part of our traditions. Music is at the core of who we are, and although we maintain traditions, we have also been on the forfront of musical invations at church.
- We have maintained a choral tradition thoughout our history - 35 voice, eight part adult choir (SSAATTBB).
- We were one of the first to introduce handbells in London - 5 Octave (61 bell) choir with both handbells and handchimes.
- We inovated with a contemporate service, featuring contemporary music.
- We have a full choir school for our choristers, one of only a couple in Canada!
- We train organists, currently there are 5 organ scholars.
Traditions that endure, both time-honoured and new!
